Modern federal design sources?

I recently moved into a 6-bed, 250-year-old row mansion built in the federal architectural style that is currently undergoing heavy renovation. I want it renovated somewhat to federal standards to preserve the house's glory, but also don't want to make it too museum-ish and fragile. Is there a source that someone can point me towards that deals with modern federal design?
