What should I use to paint the guard on my Jeep?

I've got an '04 Wrangler Rubicon in Red. Its got a stinger-like guard on the front and it is chipping and oxidizing a bit. I was thinking about sanding it down good and painting it with a bed liner. Any thoughts?
